Help your students begin to make sense of Shakespeare's language and poetry with this engaging 7-page packet analyzing Sonnet 130, "My mistress' eyes are nothing like the sun."
Each section of the poem is broken down into chunks, where students analyze vocabulary, figurative language, and structure. Students could complete the entire packet themselves, or you could break the class up into groups and have each group complete a section and then report to the class.
This is a great activity to use before reading one of Shakespeare's plays to get students experienced with analyzing verse. The packet could also be used as an emergency lesson plan for a substitute teacher. An answer key is included.
