This is a close reading assignment of 1.2, an important scene in setting the tone and understanding for the rest of the play. In this assignment, students learn subtext and how to better understand Shakespeare's language. The assignment includes the different aspects of subtext to look for, providing definitions and examples that students can use throughout the reading. This assignment will build the foundational understanding of plot by understanding more fully and easily each character's motivation and/or how to detect that.
