Using an engaging song in the minor scale, this lesson provides step by step directions for performing an I-VII chord change for upper elementary students. With clear directions, starting with the steady beat, body percussion, graphic representations of the xylophones, and finally performance of the chord change on the barred instruments, your students will surely be successful making the move of a chord change! Also integrated into this lesson are two other instrument parts (guiro and glockenspiel), and explicit instruction about introduction and coda. Included with this lesson are lesson suggestions, assessment opportunities, extension ideas, and the sheet music of my original Orff arrangement. This lesson has been a hit with my fourth and fifth grade students, so much so, that they asked to sing it again the following week!
