This Shape Flip book packet includes directions for making flip books and lesson instructions for using it with plane and solid shapes. It includes an anticipation guide which helps student to self assess what they know about shapes before they begin the unit and then has them evaluate what they have learned at the end of the unit. This packet also includes a page for plane shapes and a page for solid shapes. The pages provide students with a picture of the shape and the definition. These pictures and definitions are glued into the flip book and serve as a good introduction to a unit on shapes.
I realize that there are many more shapes that could have been included, but I find that this is really enough to get students started. Since I show samples of each shape, discuss the shapes, and let students partner share what they have learned it takes us about a half hour to get through each page. I do the two pages on two different days and then begin discussing more shapes as we go through the unit.
