Shape attributes is an interactive activity to help students identify and evaluate attributes of 2 dimensional shapes. It can be used with 2nd graders that are just learning the concepts of shape attributes or with 3rd-5th graders as a quick review of basic geometry.
The activity can be completed as a whole class activity, in small groups or with a partner. There are 18 question cards. An answer key is also provided.
For a whole class activity, each student will need a black and white shape worksheet. Have the students cut out the shapes and place them at the top of their desks. Then the teacher (or a student) chooses one of the question cards. Read only the first clue. After the first clue is read, students identify the shapes that meet that criteria and move them to the center of the desk. Then read the next clue and have students move shapes that can be eliminated to another area of the desk. After the last clue has been read, only one shape should remain. That is the answer. The goal is to get a lot of discussion going as the clues are read. Why did you keep that shape? Why didn’t you keep that shape? Etc.
Three additional worksheets are also included to help evaluate student progress.
