Shapes 2D and 3D Shapes Find and Write math center activity to do while learning 2d and 3d shapes. This would be a great introduction to a geometry unit or just a fun center for practice identifying 2d and 3d shapes. For this activity, you put the shape cards around the room and students go around to find the pictures and write the name of the shape on their recording sheet. This is a great way to help them practice the vocabulary while also having fun!
This includes 3 center varieties:
3d Shapes: cube, cylinder, pyramid, sphere, cone, rectangular prism, hemisphere, triangular prism
2d Shapes: Square, Triangle, Circle, Rectangle, Pentagon, Hexagon, Octagon, Trapezoid
2d Shapes: Square, Triangle, Circle, Rectangle, Oval, Rhombus (alternate page where it's called a Diamond), Heart, Star
If you need a shape or two swapped out to make it fit your standards, just ask!
Find and Write is one of my absolute favorite activities. They are so fun and engaging for the students that they don't even realize they're working! It's easy to prep too - just quickly place the cards around the classroom (or you could let a student do it = fun
job!) If you're not already doing something similar in your classroom, I really recommend it to get the kids up and moving without sacrificing any learning. I recommend having it be a math center so there is only a small group of students doing it at a time. If you're worried about managmenet, don't be! They will be excited to find the words and it's a great way to "trick" them into being really engaged in their work. If you want to make it take longer or be more challenging, you can put the cards in harder to find places. :)
