  • Shape types are square, triangle and circle.
  • Shape sizes are big, medium and small.
  • Shape colors are red, yellow and green.

The sorting mats are to use for sorting by one attribute each, for example: "These shapes are BIG."

Play a small group game: The shapes can be sorted by two attributes, and 3 attributes. Print on card stock, cut out and use to spread out on the table or floor and explore their properties. When sorting more than 1 attribute, you could ask questions such as “Can you find a shape that is big, yellow and round? Can you find all the medium, green shapes?"

For children with more experience with shapes and categorizing, make a Venn diagram by overlapping 2 hoops, or with lengths of yarn, and sort the shapes that way.

These patterns can also be printed several times and used to create large art mosaics and shape collages.
