Description

This is a great way to teach shapes during the holiday season. The children will be able to identify seven basic shapes by using a holiday symbol representative of each shape. The students use colorful collage to illustrate this holiday favorite and can write about each shape in a journal.

Shapes included are:

❆ circle

❆ triangle

❆ square

❆ rectangle

❆ diamond (rhombus page included)

❆ oval

❆ hexagon

There are two different sets of pages in the journal, one with 4 boxes for each shape. The children draw a holiday item and then write the name of the item on a line. The other set has 2 boxes and lines for the children to write complete sentences about the items.

Your students can create their own copy of this book!

Included are all the reproducible blackline masters, full directions, and a color photo page showing the completed pages of the book.

The children create a page a day, using the collage technique.  The students follow directions to create the illustration out of construction paper.  Included are the complete cutting directions for making circles and ovals from squares and rectangles by trimming off the corners.   All you do is cut squares and rectangles on your paper cutter for the pages.  The rest is up to the children!  Very little teacher time for prepping and no patterns or tracers to create!

There is at least one word on each page for the students to write.  We sound the word out together as a class and then the children can copy it from the board or try sounding it out themselves.

When we are finished with the book, we use it at our reading station in place of the published books from our reading program.  The children love using their own books and take great pride in them!
