Shapes on a Picnic learning center is comprised of three flip books. Students will learn two dimensional and three dimensional shapes and their properties by exploring the various items that are commonly found during a family picnic. Book one is composed of the name of a two dimensional shape, a picture of the shape, and an every day item of that shape. Book two is composed of the name of a three dimensional shape, a picture of the shape, and an every day item of that shape. Book three is composed of a mix of two and three dimensional shapes. Students are asked to match the name of the shape with a picture and a description of the shapes properties (3 sides, 3 corners, etc.) Directions are provided for the students on the inside cover of each book. If students are correct in their matching, the self correcting stickers on the back will match up. Included in this PDF are the items needed to create the flip books. You will need to provide construction paper and binding for the pages of the book. You will also need to provide the self checking mechanism. I used beach themed stickers although you could use any type of sticker or draw a symbol if budget is a concern. I suggest laminating the pages of the flip book for durability. In order to make the center more attractive for students, a table cloth, picnic basket, and three stuffed animal friends with whom to learn can be added. The learning center was designed for grades K-2, specifically grade 1. If you have questions about how to construct the books, please don't hesitate to ask.
