Shared book reading can be an important way for parents to help build students’ language skills. Although parents may read stories to their children, they may not know how to use that reading time to build language skills by asking questions. These cards can help provide parents/caregivers with general questions that could be asked about any picture book. A short introduction about the importance of reading to children, how it can build language skills, and how to ask questions is also provided to be handed out with the question cards.
Simply print the cards onto thick paper/cardstock, cut out, and punch a hole in the corner so that the cards could be threaded onto a loose-leaf paper ring or piece of yarn/string. These cards are a great item to hand out at back to school nights, parent conferences, IEP meetings, etc. to help parents and to facilitate the home-school connection. Great resource for early intervention students and their families!
