Shared Reading is one component of a balanced primary reading program (guided reading, shared reading, reading writing connection, home reading program, independent reading and read aloud and respond).
This packet includes a living and non-living shared reading passage and several related activities. The activities move from looking at the whole shared reading passage, to looking at lines within it, to words and finally to within word patterns.
Monday - play guess the covered word as students use decoding and comprehension strategies to guess the hidden word.
Tuesday - Cut and rearrange the lines into the correct order.
Wednesday - fill in the missing sight words in the shared reading passage.
Thursday - Within Words activity focusing on compound words and plural words.
Friday - Copy of the original living and non-living shared reading to add to their reading folders. (Folders they keep all their shared reading in to practice all year long!)
There is very little prep needed for using this Shared Reading packet. Just print and go! I dedicate 20 minutes each morning for our shared reading activity. There is a 20 minute activity in this package for each day of the week. There is consistency and routine built in to these packets to help keep your classroom running smoothly! I find that our shared reading time is the best time of our day. I hope you do too!
I am adding weekly shared reading packets as I develop them for use in my own classroom so please visit my store, Mrs. Hanley's Helpers to get more!
