Shared Reading Made Easy: Weekly Lesson Plan Template For The Whole Year

This weekly template for shared reading can be used every week, all year, year after year! Shared reading is a crucial element of balanced literacy that is sometimes hard to fit into the day—especially in the upper grades. Use this plan to support your students and improve their fluency and comprehension skills.

With very little prep involved, all you have to do to use this product is:

1. Pick a text to use each week. I’ve included several recommendations across the genres to get you started.

2. Pick the strategies you’ll teach to reinforce each skill. I’ve included a list of possible strategies that you can teach your students for each day’s focus skill. Of course, you will want to confer with your students during shared reading to help inform your decisions.

3. Once you’ve picked your strategies, follow the plan with that specific strategy in mind, and you’re all set. You'll just need to decide where to model each strategy in each text.

Simply copy and paste these lesson plans into your formal lesson plan website or template for your administrator. Objectives, Procedures, Assessments, and Standards are included for each day. You can print out the lesson plans in black & white or in color versions to use by your side as you teach.

Since a truly effective, balanced literacy classroom involves work, you will not have a year's worth of lesson plans specifically geared towards your kids done for you when you buy this product. However, if you know a text well and you know what your students need, you can do this with very minimal prep work; you will only need to be thinking aloud and/or modeling.
