Looking for a way to continually reinforce early reading skills, model strategy language, and teach new reading skills in way that is easy to use and students actually enjoy? Consider adding this 5-day protocol for shared reading to your day.
Shared reading is a balanced literacy component in which all eyes are on the same enlarged text (big book or projected text). This 5-day protocol can be used with any nonfiction text and practices comprehension, accuracy, fluency, and vocabulary in context in 10-15 minutes per day. This template has been used successfully in grades K-2 and has been reworked several times to align it to both Common Core standards and Fountas and Pinnell's Continuum of Literacy Learning.
Use in conjunction with my Shared Reading Plan for fiction text.
