This file contains color pages to create your own DIY (do it yourself) big book. Included in this file are also matching and differentiated emergent readers in black and white: regular emergent reader that matches the big book exactly, supported version for students who need a little extra support and an extended version for those kids who need a little challenge. I've created the emergent readers in the single sided version and a double sided version to help you save on copies.
Also included is an e-book or lapbook version of the big book in color. As well as sight word practice pages to reinforce the sight words (or popcorn words) in the big book: I, like and we.
The book is called "I Like Apples" and the pages read as follows:
I like yellow apples. I like green apples. I like red apples. I like apple pie. I like applesauce. We like apples!
Please ask any and all questions before purchasing. I began creating big books and emergent readers for my kinder class back in 2009 because my school did not have appropriate big books for my kids. They were basically enlarged trade books that had way to many words on each page and tiny print.
I found SO much success with creating my own big books and found it really gave my students confidence to not only have a very supportive text structure they could understand but also to be able to take these emergent readers and read them on their own. These emergent readers were placed in their book boxes and my kids even got to read them to their 3rd grade reading buddies. They were very proud! I hope your students can find the same success.
