Sharing Your Culture, a Cross Cultural Activity
This is an activity I always use when our sister school from Japan visits our high school school in Saipan. It can be adapted to any culture. Students are grouped together,(2-3 from the visiting culture and 2-3 from a homogeneous local ethnic group. Together, they discuss and fill in the handout on topics such as cultural customs, ethnic food, good and bad luck, impolite and polite behavior, etc. Then they make a large chart to present at the end of the activity.
It is always a big hit and a great ice breaker. Students become friends and learn about each other's culture. Your kids will have fun with this one!
