Product Description

Shark Attack is a card game that can be used to review tons of concepts, especially
sight words or word study words. This game is so much fun that your students will be
begging you to play it. (Seriously, all the time.)

************************************************************************************************
How To Play:
Student draws a card from the pile.
If read correctly, he or she gets to keep it.
No guessing! The student must say the word correctly in order to keep
the card. If a Shark Attack card is drawn, the student loses all their cards. (But
then immediately draws another card from the deck.)
If a Lifeboat card is drawn, it acts as bonus card and then they draw
another card. The player with the most cards wins.

************************************************************************************************
This specific Shark Attack game includes CVC Words + R Blends both real and nonsense. Specifically it contains: beginning br, cr, dr, fr, gr, pr, tr blends.

You can begin with just the real words first and then later switch to the nonsense word game. However, please don’t skip the nonsense word game. (See Why Nonsense Words for an explanation of the benefits.)

************************************************************************************************
Why are nonsense words included? Won’t that only confuse students who are just
learning to read? Absolutely not. Often I have teachers ask when teaching word study why the knowledge doesn’t transfer over? One of the reasons is that we think we are teaching students the rules and generalizations, however when we only make them decode or write real words they may be simply memorizing the word. So when they come to an unknown word with the same pattern, they don’t know how to apply it. By giving students nonsense words, they are being forced to apply the rules.

You will find that your students will have a much more solid understanding of words and patterns when making them apply their knowledge to both real and nonsense words.
