These are shark themed activities that were created to address 2nd grade Common Core standards.
•ELA-LITERACY.RI.2.7: Explain how specific images (e.g., a diagram showing how a machine works) contribute to and clarify a text.
•ELA-LITERACY.RI.2.5: Know and use various text features (e.g., captions, bold print, subheadings, glossaries, indexes, electronic menus, icons) to locate key facts or information in a text efficiently.
•ELA-LITERACY.RF.2.3: Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words.
•MATH.CONTENT.2.NBT.A.1: Understand that the three digits of a three-digit number represent amounts of hundreds, tens, and ones; e.g., 706 equals 7 hundreds, 0 tens, and 6 ones.
•MATH.CONTENT.2.NBT.A.4: Compare two three-digit numbers based on meanings of the hundreds, tens, and ones digits, using >, =, and < symbols to record the results of comparisons.

• Baby Shark Text Features Song: For teaching and remembering nonfiction text features, where to find them, and how they help us read nonfiction text. To the tune of Baby Shark
• Taking a Bite Out of Phonics: Two reading passages where students search for phonics patterns (digraphs, blends)
• Card Sharks: A game of war using multiple digit numbers and comparison symbols ( <. >, and = )
• Diving for Text Features: A fun, "scavenger hunt"-like activity where students scoot around searching for text features (such as diagrams, glossary, bold print) that are missing from their books.
