The most wonderful and creative mathematics activity for those curious minds! My students have loved every moment of this artistic task.
Shark Island focuses on:
LOCATION AND TRANSFORMATION
- Use a grid reference system to describe locations. Describe routes using landmarks and directional language ACMMG113
This resource includes a cm x cm grid to complete the activity on. Or, if you prefer, you can use a grid page from student's maths books.
Once students have completed Step 1 (Creating Shark Island), they need to provide steps/instructions to the hidden treasure. They must describe their route using landmarks, compass directions and grid coordinates.
Another amazing activity for Mapping is my Loch Ness Lake
- have a look :)
