This resource includes reading comprehension activities for two picture books that have sharks as the main characters:
•“Nugget and Fang” by Tammi Sauer
•“The Three Little Fish and the Big Bad Shark” by Ken Geist
Some of the resources are generic so they can be used with either title.
The resources are designed to be used in explicit teaching situations, to support higher order thinking, not busy work.
“The Three Little Fish and the Big Bad Shark” is an innovation on “The Three Little Pigs.”
"Nugget and Fang” has parallels to “Finding Nemo” so these are both excellent texts for explicitly teaching text-to-text connections.
You can read my blog post about this title here (with other teaching ideas): http://ripperresources.blogspot.com.au/2014/01/wow-i-am-loving-these-newly-published.html
And watch the book trailer for "Nugget and Fang" here (an excellent title for units on friendship and diverse friendships):
You can also view a YouTube clip of "The Three Little Fish and the Big Bad Shark" here to see how wonderful it is for innovating on texts, teaching text-to-text connections and critical literacy:
