Students get to analyze a piece by Franz Liszt, and learn how he very creatively used flats for a part of a piece that represents reality, and sharps for the section of the piece where he is in a dream.
First is a handout is given is an activity where students will find all the sharps, flats, and natural signs and color them blue, red, or yellow depending on which one. The piece that they are searching for the accidentals on is the same piece they listened to in the beginning of the lesson.
When students are finished they are then given a sheet that looks like tic tac toe, but it is called "Sharp Flat Toe". Students must play tic tac toe, one student is sharps and the other student is flats instead of X's and O's.
