A diamond 9 is a great way to introduce students to a topic. Each diamond has a statement related to the topic about to be studied; the students must rearrange the statements putting those they MOST agree with at the top and those they LEAST agree with at the bottom. There is one blank diamond that requires the students to write their own statement.
The goal is to generate thought and discussion on the topic before you begin a unit. At the end of the unit, you can do this same activity. Students may be surprised to see their perspectives changing when they compare their original diamond 9 to the new one.
The statements can easily be changed to suit your needs and goals for the unit.
