In this Shays' Rebellion and Articles of Confederation activity, students are taught in many different styles to help them understand the event known as Shays' Rebellion and how it demonstrated the weaknesses of the Articles of Confederation.
This resource includes a paper in-class version and a 1:1 Google compatible version to be used in conjunction with Google Classroom. Just follow the included instructions for how to access the Google version, then share the resource through Google or assign via Google Classroom. This will allow students to type directly into document!
Class begins as students start a graphic organizer where they anticipate problems that may develop based on how the Articles of Confederation handles several key issues in government. Then, students read through a brief skit on Shays' Rebellion to understand the underlying issues of this rebellion. This can be done solo, in pairs, or as an entire class! Finally, students read a popular excerpt (at the time) from the Maryland Gazette that details the shortcomings America's first government.
Then, students return to their graphic organizer to evaluate their earlier predictions!
Tons of fun!
