This Reader's Theater is adapted from the cute story by Kevin Henkes called Sheila Rae, The Brave. My students love this story! Every child wants to feel brave, and this story embraces the fact that sometimes you might not feel so brave at all.
This Reader's Theater has roles for four students. I incorporate the use of the word "ALL" so that everyone has to pay attention at all times to be able to read in unison at certain points in the script. This keeps the children from becoming distracted if they have a smaller role. It also increases their reading skills by following along as others are reading parts that might have more difficult words than their parts. The children see and hear the words read correctly.
I have included character labels that can be made into headbands or hole-punched and looped around the children's necks with a piece of yarn.
If you like the stories written by Kevin Henkes, I also have written Reader's Theater scripts for Owen and A Weekend with Wendell.
Have fun, and please feel free to change the script in any way that you would like.
