What is a shelfie? A shelfie is a selfie of someone with his or her favorite book, bookshelf, or library! Capitalize on students' interest in selfies by using them to advertise great reads in the library! This lesson can be used as a library orientation, book recommendation lesson or bulletin board activity. Whatever the reason, the Shelfie Fun lesson gets students excited about finding their favorite books and promoting them. Technology + students' interests = high level engagement among students!
This packet includes directions for incorporating shelfies in two ways. One way is to use digital devices, such as smart phones and tablets, to create shelfies using the PicCollage app. The second way is low-tech and asks students to create illustrated shelfies of themselves. That way, if your access to digital devices is limited, students can still have fun creating shelfies and promoting books!
This packet is 6 pages long and includes:
-1 cover page
-1 direction page
-1 set of student directions for using the PicCollage app on digital devices to create a shelfie
-1 template for creating hand illustrated shelfies
-2 pages of signs for bulletin boards to promote shelfies
I hope you and your students enjoy creating shelfies and finding new books to read!
