Students practice their skills of measurement with shells. Since shells are irregular, students must work harder to estimate and take accurate measurements of length, width, circumference, and volume. After their practice, students analyze how they measured and how they can be more accurate next time. Teacher instructions, scoring rubric, recording page, and a reflective writing page are included .
This lesson is in the book Rising to the Challenge of the National Science Education Standards, also sold on this website. The lesson will also be available in a packet of nine process skill lessons on shells.
