Your students will love diving for words with this engaging new sight word game from Stomping through First!
Included in this download you will receive a game board, two sets of game instructions, word cards for the sixth hundred Fry sight word list and an optional worksheet to reinforce extra practice for unknown words.
To use this game in your classroom, simply print, laminate, cut and add game pieces.
To play, students will pair up with a partner or small group. Playing cards should be placed in a pile in between the players. Students will take turns drawing cards. If they can read the word on the card that they draw, they will move forward one place on the game board. When students draw a treasure chest they will get to move forward one space and get an extra turn. Students should be on the lookout for sharks! A shark attack will force them to move back two places. The player who reaches the sunken ship first wins the game!
Two different versions of game instructions are included, the only difference being that one page includes the use of the take home word log while the other does not. I like to play this game with students that I meet with for after school tutoring and they love writing down the words that they can't read so that they can take home their "dive log" and practice those words!
My students absolutely love this game and I know yours will too!
