In this document, you will find over 160 close-reading questions to help guide your readers through Jennifer Armstrong’s Shipwreck at the Bottom of the World. In addition, I have included an answer key. This will save you hours of time and pairs nicely with the reading assessment packet and vocabulary packet that you can find on my TpT page.
I do not ask students to write the answers to every one of these questions. Rather, I ask them to use the questions as a guide when they meet in groups to discuss the chapter. I usually ask the student to write the answer to one or two questions per chapter and submit so that I can track their progress with comprehension as well as with writing. I originally had pictures inserted throughout, but with copyright rules, I could not find “free for commercial use” pictures and maps to use here. Suggestion: For each chapter, create a simple PowerPoint slide deck of visuals to augment discussion. Students love to see pictures of the Endurance in all its stages of distress and benefit from an array of maps.
