Product Description
This worksheet provides five substantial quotations from "The Lottery" and asks students to explain the significance of each to the story. The worksheet provides guidelines for students on how to interpret quotations in terms of their importance related to theme, symbolism, character and other literary elements and how to avoid simply rewording the plot or dialogue. This worksheet works well to review and assess students' understanding after a discussion of themes such as the relationship of traditions and rituals to civilization, the power of ritual, symbols in the story such as the black box and the date of lottery and ironic elements such as the serene setting. A teacher's copy is provided with the worksheet that includes, in point form, several key ideas for each quotation that students may use in their interpretations, depending on what the class has discussed. This worksheet can also be purchased as part of "The Lottery" Bundle from my TpT store: http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/nico
