This speech activity, lesson plan, is used to get students up in front of the class in an easy-going, fun way. Students collect items and present them in a grown-up version of "Show and Tell". I've had great success using this speech activity with 8th all the way up to seniors in high school. Students love to show off their talents!
This type of speech is wonderful for the first few weeks of school. This assignment allows teachers to get to know something personal about their students. Also, students learn all kinds of interesting things about each other in a safe environment. Students usually have accomplishments that they are quite proud of. Unfortunately, they never really get acknowledged in the classroom unless you know about them. This is a great way for them to connect to each other! I've learned so many cool, useful things about my students and this has helped me connect with them through the use of this one activity!
This speech activity includes directions for the activity and a printable handout that teachers can give directly to the student. Since this is in word format, teachers can modify the activity to fit their student's or classes needs.
I've also included an alternative version that can be used in a Literature unit to present a character from a novel or a play.
