Shoo Fly Shoo! Y as a Vowel Game
This a game focusing on 'y' as a vowel. It is a station or small group activity.
The children will take turns drawing a card and reading it. If a fly spray card is drawn, the child loses all his cards. If a fly swatter card is drawn, the child has to give 1 card to every player. If a picnic card is drawn, the child takes a card from every player. If the donut card is drawn, the child receives 3 cards from the deck. The child with the most cards after all the cards are drawn is the winner.
Where is baby fly?
This activity can be played whole group or small group. It is a great warm-up before starting the lesson. It could also be used as a wrap-up. The children get so excited with this activity!
Place fly word cards in a pocket chart. Hide baby fly behind one of the words. The children will take turns guessing where the baby is by reading the card they think it is behind. Play continues until the baby fly is found.
