Students think like entrepreneurs while using the percent equation. Whether you teach is/of = %/100 or part/whole = part/whole, this project will allow students to set up proportions and solve for missing parts, wholes, and percents. Part 1 (missing parts) directs students to conduct market research by analyzing real advertisements, part 2 (missing wholes) directs students to do some planning for a fictitious store they plan to open, and part 3 (missing %) allows students to stock their store for the grand opening while calculating some incentive discounts for their customers!
Use this project after teaching students to solve the percent equation, or as you teach each portion of the equation, set separate due dates for the different sections of the project. Students' final submissions are encouraged to incorporate digital technology. This product includes an answer key for part 2, and two rubrics to make it easier to grade.
