Gather up all of the catalogs and sales ads hanging around your house and use them for this fun shopping activity. As students go through the materials, they can practice vocabulary and ask questions. Students will use the worksheet provided to identify products they like and dislike. They will look for gifts for others, items on sale, and products they feel are too expensive. This makes a great activity around the holidays. I recommend allowing students time to share their findings at the end of the activity. It made for excellent speaking practice and the rest of the class was engaged and actively listening. Although intended for Adult Ed ESL, this activity would work with younger ESL students and Financial Literacy curricula.
