This PDF file contains a two page activity sheet for students called “¡Vamos de compras!” and a lesson plan for how I use this activity in the classroom.
The student activity sheet (as well as the website they will use to complete it) is entirely in Spanish, so this activity would work best for students in the second semester of Spanish I at least or any higher levels. Prior knowledge of clothing words, gift items, etc. is needed to be able to navigate the webpage. I use this lesson with Spanish II students after we have completed a unit on clothing and shopping.
Students are asked to imagine that they have received a gift card for the popular Spanish department store: El Corte Inglés. They are invited to use this gift card to “order” some nice things for themselves as well as for others. Students are to use the activity sheet as their imaginary order form. They must navigate elcorteingles.es and fill in the product name, brand, price in both Euros and USD, and a description on their “order form.” For example, students are asked to look for something to wear to a party with friends, a pair of shoes that they like, a gift that they could buy a family member, etc. After “shopping,” students are asked to share their opinion on this department store and compare it with a popular department store in the US.
Your students will love this activity! Happy shopping!
