Week 3 - Shopping Spree: Tier 1 Vocabulary Activities

There are 32 pictured objects/animals and 32 description cards included in this printable set. There are coins displayed on the description cards that creates a fun addition to your game and also helps students works on coin recognition and addition with 1 and 2 digit numbers. There is a color and black/white version available. A NO-PRINT activity is also included as well as group and individual data sheets.

Print the tag cards and punch a hole where marked. You can string a piece of ribbon or yarn through the tags so you can hang them around the room for a larger group activity.

You can use the picture and description cards together or separately; this allows you to target many skills and level the activities to the needs of your students.

Game Ideas:
Pass out the tag cards so everyone has an even number of cards. Have students display the cards in front of them face-up. Read the description cards. The student who has that card raises his hand and you give him the definition card. Once students have all picture/description pairs, have students count up the money they have earned.

Divide the group into 2 teams. Have players from each team take turns listening to (or reading) the description and guessing what you are describing (there may be more than 1 correct answer since you aren’t using picture cards). Have teams add up earned money at the end to determine the winning team

Use the picture cards only. Have students pick a card and describe the picture and/or name associated words. You can time this (1 minute) to help students get quicker with word retrieval and language processing. Students earn a point for each detail or associated word they provide.

Give students the tags to hide around the room. Read a description and have students find that tag. When they find the tags, have student explain where they found it (e.g. “It was under the red table”)
With the NO-PRINT version of this set to have student compare objects. There are questions with superlative words included.
