Product Description

The PBS science program "Hunting the Elements" has a five-minute segment on "CHNOPS," the six elements that are most abundant in living things. In the segment, host David Pogue and chemist Christine Thomas find the six elements in ordinary items that they buy in a hardware store. They proceed to calculate how much of David's weight is composed of each element. Options for this activity include using it as a station activity with students working in pairs at one computer, putting it online as an activity in an online classroom or learning management system, showing it to the entire class and pausing it so all students can write down the answers, using it in a "flipped" classroom where students watch it before your lesson on CHNOPS, or giving it as homework.
