Students will learn a response writing strategy that will explicitly teach them how to answer short answer questions. “GSA,” or “Great Short Answer” is a brief response that requires the student to create a main idea and elaborate to further clarify that main idea. The strategy was originally developed by Maureen Auman, MA in Step Up To Writing.
This packet contains original learning materials: an explanation of the strategy and its purpose in content writing, a recipe page for students, a model, and a gradual release lesson with science topics, which can easily be revised for any content, a CUPS poster for editing, a GSA recipe bookmark, an editing bookmark, an answer sheet with prompts and a rubric.
