This unit is ideal for small group instruction, or a word center. It contains 30 short “O” words setup as a fun game for 2 to 4 students. Every word is illustrated with amazing clip art. The words on these flash cards are located on top of the card because they are meant to be the central focus for the student. The picture is there to support the connection between the word and what it represents. Teaching words using pictures is particularly useful for English Language Learners (ELLs) and for those students who are learning English as a Second Language (ESL).
Print and cut the flash cards using card stock paper. Fine lines are provided to help cut the cards into even sizes.
HOW TO PLAY THE GAME:
Place the cards face-down in a stack. Students take turns picking a card from the top of the stack. If they can correctly read the word on the card, they get to keep it. If they get an “Oops” card, they must return all their cards, except the “Oops” card, to the bottom of the stack. The player with the most number of cards at the end of the game wins. You may want to reduce the number of "Oops" cards to make the game complete the game in less time.
