Product Description

This Short Story Analysis Guide is a standards-based, easy-to-use, and engaging way to guide students in deeper critical thinking skills when reading short stories.

Includes:

  • Teacher Model: ANSWER KEY to go with "The Scarlet Ibis"
  • Student Copy: Blank graphic organizer

I use this successfully in a Gen-Ed English 9 class.

  1. I start by reviewing the Five Short Story Elements (see separate product).
  2. Then, I model how to use this Analysis Guide along with "The Scarlet Ibis".
  3. Next, students choose between: "The Cask of Amontillado", "The Most Dangerous Game", and "The Necklace".
  4. They read their chosen story and complete their own Short Story Analysis Guide.

This is easily adaptable for grades 7, 8, 9, or 10 depending on the difficulty level of the short stories you use that best fit your students!
