Anticipation guides are a great pre-reading strategy as it gets the kids to connect with and engage with a text before reading. My anticipation guides ask the students several controversial statements (relating to themes in the text) and then the student must choose whether they agree or disagree and why.
I love to have the kids debate their responses before reading and then evaluate their responses after reading.
I have included anticipation guides for the following three stories:
-Masque of the Red Death
-Monsters are Due on Maple Street
