Following a narrative writing unit, I found that my students did not make the necessary changes that were recommended during peer editing time and my one-on-one conference with the student. I gave them the opportunity to fix their mistakes and edit their stories. They use the following chart complete your story corrections and reflection. I am basing this off of my rubric that I handed out to students when we started this unit. If they make the changes, they can improve their grade first received for their stories. I've found that if I edit their work without any more work on the student's part, my editing is in vain. However, if they have to actually read my editing marks and corrections to improve their grade, it will actually happen!
I believe in learning from mistakes and I want to give my students that option when I can.
