Teaching upper elementary and middle school students to write a short story can be a daunting task if you have no idea where to begin. Every student comes into your classroom with a different amount of writing experience and expertise but they all have the ability to write better if they are challenged to do so. This set of lessons/pages is not designed to make all students wonderful writers but is instead intended to give teachers a place to kick start the writing of a short story. These are not full blown lesson plans but instead a guide to help you develop lessons to meet your students’ needs.
These pages and lessons can be used over a period of several days/class periods. Adjust as you see fit. Lastly, these lessons are only for kick starting the process of writing a short story so once you've begun you can take the piece through the writing process at your own pace. This is a 10 page kit.
