When we teach creative writing, the very first challenge is to create story prompts that kids can relate to. What better way to jump start creativity than by providing an image that students can interact with!!!!

Each worksheet has an image and a box to work out the five crucial story elements: character, setting, theme, plot and conflict. The three different images allow for flexibility in delivery. Individual assignments, group work, pair work... Also, I have included a larger image for smart board projection!

Just a few suggestions:

Whole Group Learning: Display an image on the board and have students give suggestions for each element. If time permits, you could even write a classroom short story!

Small Group Learning: Print a few of each of the ready to go sheets and allow each group to choose their own setting! In their group, they will discuss what's going on in the picture and write a short story together.

Individual: Again, print and go!

**All the photos in this unit have been taken by me. They will not be found on Google!!! Three of the photos are featured on the listing photo. The other two include a photo of a French Quarter street and the second is a power plant in Mississippi.
