Product Description
Many schools are going 1:1 and are trying to have paperless classrooms.

In this product you will find 24 different short story starters each on their own digital task card. These short story starters can be used in a variety of ways. I've used them as whole group and individually. I've used this in a creative writing elective and in my regular English class.

*Unlike traditional task cards you don't have to spend a lot of time cutting them out.

The task cards are aligned with the common core state standards for grades 5-12. I've enclosed a list of these standards.

You can do this in a number of ways. I've done each of the following in the past:

• Give each student a different story starter. If you have a larger class do some repeats. They have to use that story starter as the first sentence (or in some cases 2 sentences) of their story. If you want to give them a page or paragraph requirement it’s up to you.

• Give each student a choice of 2 or 3 short story starters. They get to pick which one they want. They have to use that story starter as the first sentence (or in some cases 2 sentences) of their story. If you want to give them a page or paragraph requirement it’s up to you.

• Put students in small groups. Have them each write for a set amount of time (3-5 minutes) and then they pass the story (digitally) to the next person in the group. That person then continues the story wherever the other person left off. In the past when I’ve done this the stories have been hilarious. Since I work with older students I have to lay down some ground rules about cursing and school appropriate topics. I had the students share them aloud when I used this method.

You can easily print out the pages if you have to.

If you haven’t created a free Google account, you will need to do that before beginning the project. Each student will need their own account if they will be working on their own.
