This is a short story I usually give to a grade 9 class. It's a very simple short story that you can read with the class in half an hour. I usually use this short story to also model what close reading looks like and teach students to annotate as they read. Then I teach them about the plot graph
There's a Twilight Zone episode based on this short story that I also like to show to the kids.
The file contains three parts: a pre-reading activity to get kids ready for the short story, the story itself, and a small handout on the plot graph. Students are then asked to break down the story according to the plot graph. An plot graph answer key is included.
Although I assign this to my grade 9 class, the story is suitable for grades 6-9.
