This short story unit test requires students to read "The Dinner Party" by Mona Gardner and apply all of their literary analysis skills to the text. They identify and analyze plot, characterization, conflict, irony, and symbolism. Additionally, they construct a short essay and support an argument with textual evidence, literary connections, and personal experience.
I use this in a regular 9th grade classroom or as the final passage on a Midterm for a low-performing level (omitting the essay).
