Short Story Unit with Multiple Choice Assessments and Pre, During, Post Plans

I chose to include five short stories that my middle school students find particularly engaging within this unit. Each short story is supplemented with a Before, During, and After Reading activity as well as a summative assessment.

This unit includes resources for the following five short stories:

• The Most Dangerous Game by Richard Connell

• Charles by Shirley Jackson

• Lamb to the Slaughter by Roald Dahl

• Thank You, Ma’am by Langston Hughes (paired with Mother to Son, a poem by Langston Hughes)

• The Interlopers by Saki

I aligned my content to sixth grade Common Core English/Language Arts Literature standards, but it could also be used in in seventh, eighth, and ninth grades. This unit includes short stories all middle schoolers will enjoy and benefit from!
