Short Vowel "A" Word Family Centers:

This bundle of activities includes literacy centers for five short "a" word families: -at, -ap, -an, -am, and -ag. There are eight centers that can be done separately for each word family as you teach them. When teaching one word family a week, this bundle will last 5 weeks! The activities are hands on and allow your students to practice word families in a fun way! You can also use some of the activities for homework or morning work. These activities will help your students become familiar with word families and strengthen their ability to find chunks in words.

These activities are also aligned with the Common Core State Standards:
RF.K.2a: Recognize and produce rhyming words.
RF.K.2c: Blend and segment onsets and rimes of single-syllable spoken words.
RF.K.2d: Isolate and pronounce the initial, medial vowel, and final sounds (phonemes) in three-phoneme (consonant-vowel-consonant, or CVC) words.
RF.K.2e: Add or substitute individual sounds (phonemes) in simple, one-syllable words to make new words.
RF.K.3a: Demonstrate basic knowledge of one-to-one letter-sound correspondences by producing the primary sound or many of the most frequent sounds for each consonant.
RF.K.3b: Associate the long and short sounds with the common spellings (graphemes) for the five major vowels.
RF.K.3d: Distinguish between similarly spelled words by identifying the sounds of the letters that differ.
