This is a really fun way to teach the short vowel sounds! Students can chant and make movements in order to memorize the sounds. For a-a-apple, students pretend to bite into an apple. For e-e-eggs, students pretend to gently crack an egg on top of their heads. For i-i-inchworm they make an inchworm with their pointer finger and wiggle waggle it. For o-o-octopus, make wiggly fingers on both hands. For u-u-umbrella, pretend to hold an umbrella above your head! These chants work! Students are often seen making the movement while trying to sound out or spell a word. Have fun!
