Here's the conundrum I always face when trying to find quick readers for my firsties - all the decodable readers are either:
a. too easy (i see a ball. i see a hall. i see a mall. zzz)
b. too hard
c. too "one thing" - either focused purely on comprehension but in a way my striving readers couldn't read the words, or too focused on phonics that my upper-level kiddos were bored to tears.
This, paired with not having any sort of DRA/reading level guide at my school, led to the creation of this unit.
This unit features 5 stories (One Big Pig, That Cat, Stop Spot!, Fun in the Sun, and Ten Pets) for each short vowel sound. Each story features a variety of decodable short vowel words along with level-appropriate sight words. The stories also limit numerous short vowel words within a single story - ie., very few short A words in a short E story.
These are not just decodable readers, though! They all feature comprehension questions, student info sheets, running record assessment copies for teacher use, and student short vowel unscramble sheets for either homework or post-reading use. They are also color-coded by story to make your organization easier. :-)
Please download the preview for help. Additionally, I have posted a free story & preview, One Big Pig
I am a growing seller and I would love all feedback, please!
