This packet is based on the Layer One Sounds of the Orton Gillingham Phonics First Program. It is a Vowel Intensive Packet that focuses on learning the short vowel sounds. It was created to meet the needs of my students to build phonemic awareness, and hopefully will help your students as well!
The Vowel Intensive Multi-sensory Activities and Dictation Packet contains:
1.) Table of Content – This set of Multi-sensory Activities was developed to take place over 10 weeks. This is only a suggestion. The activities can be used at a quicker or slower pace depending on your students needs.
2.) Key Word Picture Cards – Each vowel sound starts with a Key Word Picture Card. These can be printed, laminated, and hung up as a learning tool for your students. The Key Word Picture is used to help students associate the sound each vowel makes to the picture and word.
3.) Dictation Booklet – Each vowel has a Dictation Booklet. The booklet contains a cover page, words that start with page, and 10 days worth of dictation pages. For daily dictation, select 2 CVC words containing the vowel you are focusing on and a simple sentence for students to pound and tap out. For example, Day 1 Dictation Words are: fan and mat. The Sentence is: The cat is on the mat.
4.) Multi-sensory Activity Directions – Each activity starts with a set of procedures on how to complete the Multi-sensory Activity. These directions also include suggestions for differentiated instruction.
5.) Multi-sensory Activities – These reproducible activities are hands on. They include a variety of skills, such as cutting, gluing, and the introduction of CVC words.
6.) Independent Practice Pages – These reproducible activities are differentiated. Choose from the following activities: trace the short vowel sound, fill in the short vowel sound, match the CVC words to the pictures.
